Project Quercus

Commissioned by the Davis Arboretum at the University of Alabama, Project Quercus documents the almost 40 species of Oak native to Alabama. Quercus is the genus of oak, which is the first part of the scientific name that describes a species of oak to science. Each species is illustrated in spring, summer, and fall, exhibiting leaf form in shade and sun, with bud and fruit (acorn) characteristics, and a unique diagram to help users identify different species of oak.
